The world flashed before her eyes for a second at the click of the lock. The worlds that was once hers. She stood silently as she watched Daniel step through the door like his father did years ago. And for a moment, she could not move. She just stood there, frozen to the spot.

The silence held for a whole minute. The door was open now, and she could see the inside of the living room that was left exactly the way she remembered it, lit by the light that had turned on the moment the youth had entered. Struggling, she forced herself to step forward. Her body moved sluggishly as if underwater, but she made it inside.

Still not making a sound, she turned her head towards the mantelpiece where several framed photos of familiar faces were standing. She slowly, she reached for a frame. It showed a the side view of a man with brown hair and a metal arm standing on deck and looking out towards the distance and a little to the back was the form of young girl looking in the same direction. The wind had risen at the exact moment of the photo to ruffle their hair and swirl their garments impressively. She handed it to Daniel.

“Zack Braveheart later had another name. Adrian Abrichter.”

Daniel was also silent. He watched his foster mother walk in, caught in a miasma of nostalgia. And then came Hemera’s revelation, hitting Daniel as hard as a point blank gunshot. “W-what? Hemera, don’t even joke about that!”

“I am not joking.” Hemera’s voice was serious, she placed the framed photograph onto Daniel’s hands.

“Zack Braveheart and Adrian Abrichter are the same person, he changed his name after we went separate ways to hide his trail. Have you never realized that your father had a prosthetic arm?”

“Prosthetic…arm? Impossible. I was always spending time with him! I would have known if he had one! Just stop it already!” Daniel examines the picture frame in his hands. Indeed, there was a stunning resemblance. But that just it. A resemblance and nothing more. “Don’t you dare confuse my father for a murdering low life. My father was a good man who helped anyone who asked for his help, and his name is Adrian Abrichter. Not Zack Braveheart. Adrian.”

An expression of annoyance flitted past her face, then it dawned to her. “Oh, yes. I forgot that you were a mere child the last time you saw him, and he took the arm he used for undercover missions with him when he left…”

Hemera then strode to shelf, and removed a small object from a box then flicked it at Daniel the way a magician would. “This is the dog tag he wore when he was in military. Adrian IS his name, just not one that everyone knew him by.”

The next object was notepad. “I heard you read most of his manuals when you were a kid. These are the ideas he had but never completed, you might have read them before. That handwriting must be familiar too.”

She stared at Daniel again. “Hmmmm..” she mused, this isn’t going to be easy. Daniel could be a stubborn kid if he wants to. “Let’s make a deal, you will believe me while I show you around the ship. And if at the end you still don’t believe me.. Well, just consider it a historical field trip.”

“Her insides? Wh-” Daniel found himself being towed by his foster mother before he could finish, taking him the doorway of what looked like a normal house on top of the deck. She then gave him a key, no doubt to open the door. He extends a hand, but recoils midway, looking Hemera in the eye.

“Why? You have to answer that question as soon as we step inside.”

Hemera gave Daniel a cryptic smile, one that seemed almost… sorrowful.

“Yes, I will answer it, along with any other questions you want to ask.” she promised gently.

And she placed the key in Daniel’s hand, giving him the power to unlock the truth that was now separated from the by only a single locked door.

Daniel grips the key at first, feeling the smoothness, the cold of it, every tooth of it before sliding it into the keyhole, looking at Hemera just as he twists the key in place. The door eases of its long held lock, dust falls from its hinges, and Daniels gives a gentle push to open it full swing and steps into the house. Lights open up as soon as he sets foot inside, and he was greeted by the sight of a living room. A simple living room.

The world flashed before her eyes for a second at the click of the lock. The worlds that was once hers. She stood silently as she watched Daniel step through the door like his father did years ago. And for a moment, she could not move. She just stood there, frozen to the spot.

“What…? I… I don’t understand! For my sake? What? Is there something you’re not telling me?” The sudden flash of light temporarily blinded him, and he came face to face with one of the most manestic objects he would see in this lifetime, slack jawed. ”No way… The Rosewood? It’s his ship, the one that took on an entire armada alone and emerged victorious and unscathed. Daniel remembers watching documentaries about Zack, the footage of what the Rosewood was capable of giving him the goosebumps right where he stood. And the. He faced his foster mother again. “Why are you telling me all of this? Why are you showing me all of this?”

Hemera grin widened at Daniel’s amazed expression then she shrugged at his questions .”Yes, The Rosewood. The fastest, strongest, and most powerful ship ever built. The ship that brings destruction to enemies and salvation to friends. The ship owned by one Zack Braveheart. And I wanted to show off, I guess. It’s been years since I’ve made someone gasp in awe, kinda miss that. There’s more of course, but I’m sure you want to see her insides first.”

She skipped down the metal walkway to the ship, dragging him behind her. Everything will be explained inside.

The walkway wound around and ended at the remarkably normal looking front door of the house above the cockpit. Now standing in front of it, she pulled off a chain around her neck. A single silver key hung at the end of it.

“You do the honors, Daniel.”

“Alright, are you sure you weren’t brainwashed or anything? Stockholm Syndrome? Nothing? Because the people we’re talking about don’t seem to be the same. Zack Braveheart is an evil man. He’s one of the most prolific killers in recorded history. He kills out of cold blood, he decides who lives and who dies, he’s playing god. And if you’re married then why aren’t there any pictures of you two back at home? You’re scaring me, Hemera. Are you sure it’s not the cold that’s getting to you?”

“History is written by the winners.” Hemera’s tone was suddenly serious. “And Zack was never the winner. Every battle he fought, he lost something. He lost his arm, his friends, his comrades, his pride, his sanity and his good reputation, though he did not care much for the last one.”

She scoffed “Playing god? He was not playing god. He was the ironic slave of the the Goddess of Freedom. Half of what he did, he did unwillingly. And maybe I HAVE been brainwashed and I DO have Stockholm Syndrome, but I was there, I watched him, and I loved him. Still do. The cold has not dulled my memories, it has only made them sharper.”

“The pictures were hidden for your sake, along with all the memorabilia and other records.” At this point, Hemera suddenly remembered the sex tape that they had once made, then shook it out of her head and continued. “It was not the time for you to know, but I will show them to you soon.”

Without a warning, she flipped the switch. Light flickered on in pairs, lighting up the space now seen to be an enormous cavern and the single content that filled almost the entire space. It was a ship, brown and gold and dusty, for it had been years since the hull has been polished and the deck scrubbed. But it was magnificent. The bowfigure stood eternal, its massive cannons looked as if they could annihilate stars, though for some reason there seemed to be what looked like a house above the deck. Hemera looked at the ship with a grin.

“Daniel, meet the Rosewood.”

“What…? I… I don’t understand! For my sake? What?
